Cold coffee and choking hazards!
My blogs have been a bit less frequent lately, apologies! My love of writing hasn’t dwindled nor do I have writers block. Quite the contrary, actually! I have been updating our website for the upcoming venture into Experience Consulting, designing tools in Google Sheets for both the Career and Experience side our business and chatting a lot with the LoveThat AI design companion - Juan Pablo. So my fingers have indeed been very busy on the keys!
My wife and I will be married for 22 years this September. Although we have a weekly coffee date and deliberately spend time together; the years of work and travel (aka…time away) have left small feelings of absence, but also a curiosity to learn who each other have become.
The first step “rolled” into full-swing when we became members of Gracie University, bought mats, Gi’s, rash guards and started our at-home Jiu Jitsu journey! We are working through the entertaining lessons (slices) from the Gracie brothers and learning all the basics: back-control, chokes, take downs, arm bars, etc. My delight in sharing what I have learned to the flourishing of others, my enjoyment of Jiu Jitsu, and my love for my wife are all wrapped up into evening trainings, chokes and tons of amusement! 🥋
Admittedly, I drink coffee pretty quickly! By the time my first cup is ready for a refill my wife is only halfway through her cup. She’s is likely not ignoring her coffee, but just busy with her latest crochet project. Three weeks ago I came to a very intimate understanding of why she gets so focused on her projects and why her coffee gets cold…I began crocheting! Patiently and encouragingly, my wife is teaching me how to crochet! She has been “hooking” for 10 years and seeing her working through amazing blankets, cowls, mittens, and more…she’s a master! Under her tutelage I’m starting to hold by own in the basics of crocheting and diligently working on my first dish cloth. Of course - it’s pink! 🌸
Now that I’m hooking and she’s rolling we have more in common, more to talk about and more to learn than we did before! She has shoulder pain and I have cold coffee! ☕️ She can choke me and I can crochet a wash cloth for her! Certainly, learning new skills is great - but growing closer is priceless!
I hope you get a chance to learn and grow with the people you love!
Go - live your Default Life!
