Am I not cool anymore?!

You were young and had 20/20 vision. Then as you got older there was a point you noticed your eyes are not as sharp as they were, especially when driving at night! Uncertain when the deterioration began, the current status of your eyesight is a topic not up for debate…you need glasses!

The eventual day comes while wrestling around with your teenaged son that you notice you’re straining and about to burst a blood vessel but he is calm and collected. The realization hits you…this kid is stronger than me! So you resort to leverage and a little extra deep breathing to finally get him to submit. Barely! 😩

Dinner dishes are beckoning to be washed and you decide to take it upon yourself to clean-up even though you’re the sous chef who created the masterpiece now being discarded into the bin. As you are filling the sponge with Dawn dish soap you notice yourself humming an unfamiliar song. “Hey kiddo…who is this?” You hear your phone on the counter vibrate and you know you were just sent a new playlist that you are now blaring while driving into downtown Ann Arbor, MI. (Yes, this was me and this was all just last week!)

This is but a short collection in a myriad of reasons that point to the fact that I may not be as young, strong, and (heck yeah) cool as I used to be. What is the remedy for this? Become classier, timeless, extra confident and wiser. Wear those khaki pants and Red Wing boots with pride; walk and sit with better posture because you have the self-discipline now (also, looking like a hunchback isn’t very attractive or confidence evoking); read more books and write in a journal instead of tapping and scrolling on that mini computer in your hand. Be the person others ask how to spell a word or what period of history that painting is from. Practice alchemy and increase the knowledge of others by sharing what the years of experience and dedicated learning has taught you. Create a ‘give to others’ mindset and look for opportunities to enrich your life and the lives of those around you! Have a couple favorite quotes at the ready for the perfect situation. Be more humble, charitable, and increase in generosity with your time!
