“Back to the office…all of you…5 days a week!” passionately yours, the CEO
You can like it or not; you can argue for or against it; and you can participate in deep discussions over the social, cultural, or team building aspect of ‘back to work’. Those topics are for others to debate and although I may touch on them at some point, they’re not on my current radar. One thing most of us can agree on is we will be spending more time in our cars and likely experience our lives being slowly wasted away in rush hour traffic.…how depressing. 😫
Or is it?
We indeed live in a post-covid world and if that dreadful era gave us anything it was the popularity and proliferation of the long-form interview. Joe Rogan, Shawn Ryan, Tucker Carlson, and Jocko Willink all come to mind. Of course this form of entertainment was available pre-March 2020, but with people stuck at their computers and/or phones and ample free time not being utilized by colleagues at lunch, I think many of us found new and refreshing hope in listening and learning to subject matter experts (SME’s) on nearly any topic of interest.
Maybe we just need to reframe all the ‘wasted’ time we have to spend in the car and develop a default.learn mentality! Instead of picturing our life slowly draining like sand through an hour glass, we use this time as an exciting quiet/personal snippet of time to dive into that subject you have always wanted to know more about. (For me it’s been all about decision theory, choice architecture and personality!) Don’t sink into a pit of despair or rage because someone has a flat tire and AAA is blocking a lane. Instead find a new podcast of science, comedy or Jiu Jitsu! (Thank you Mr. Butler for the “I suck at Jiu Jitsu” recommendation! ) And best of all, you can share what you have learned!
chose your default.life!
easter egg for Harry Potter’s birthday yesterday- the hour glass belonged to Professor Slughorn! 😁
