Upon getting back to our Air BnB around 12:30 following a couple long morning hikes my son grabbed a freezer sandwich, threw it in the air fryer for 4 mins, then ate like a starving man would, quickly and satisfied! My daughter, following her brothers lead, air-fried her sandwich for 4 mins and exclaimed, “this egg is still frozen!” She asked how her brother’s sandwich was and I responded, “it was probably still frozen, but he didn’t care.” 🤷♂️ After another few minutes of heating, followed by a sigh and another few minutes more, my daughter was finally able to eat her lunch. Meanwhile my son had finished his partially frozen sandwich, grabbed an apple, filled up his water bottle, and was off on another adventure.
I’m not advocating for us to eat our food raw/undercooked or not to have deep convictions about some things, but this situation got me thinking about all the molehill-mountains we make in our daily lives that keep us from progressing and moving forward to the next task, adventure, or homecoming at the end of a busy work day. We live in a hurry-rush-nitpick world that expects immediate results, immediate perfection, immediate gratification. If it’s not perfect and it’s not ‘right-now’ they can’t move on but steam and fume over things that are really not that important.
What an incredible waste of time to occupy one’s mind with pettiness while not advancing & enhancing what you can in your life. Should we want and expect good things? Of course! In fact, there should be a couple of hills we are willing to die on. Otherwise, let it go, try to mind a little less, grab that book you’ve been wanting to read, and write in your journal more!
